6th Grade Reading List

Over the summer, each child is to read TWO books from the suggested list and create TWO projects. The project is a bookmark that will be laminated and kept for your child’s use during the year. Please help your child complete these items before returning to school next fall. If you have any questions, please contact me at Ms. Orr's e mail. See below for a download and printable version of the letter sent home at the end of the school year.

Summer Reading List for Sixth Grade

  • Madeline L’Engle-A Wrinkle in Time
  • Gary Paulsen-Guts: The True Stories Behind Hatchet and the Brian Books
  • Elizabeth George Speare-The Bronze Bow
  1. Read two books from the list.
  2. Use the enclosed bookmark template to design your bookmarks.
  3. Design a bookmark to include the following items:
  • An illustration depicting a major event from your book
  • The title of the book
  • Author
  • Your name

  • All items should be on the front of the bookmark. The illustration should depict an event in your book. The title and author should be prominently written or typed on the same side as the illustration. Trying your hardest is ALWAYS important! This is the first work I will see from you at the beginning of the year, so do your best! Remember to use color in the design of your bookmark.
  • Laminating is an option, not a requirement. I will laminate the projects.
  • Please bring your summer reading assignment to school on the THIRD FULL DAY of School for a completed assignment.
  • Please PAPER CLIP both projects to this sheet of paper.
