Cougars split with Greenbrier
The Goodpasture Cougars (8-8) and Lady Cougars (10-7) split their district basketball games last week at Greenbrier. The boys lost by the score of 89-54. The Lady Cougars had an exciting comeback win by the score of 49-45.

The boys got behind early in this Greenbrier contest and just could never overcome the deficit. By halftime they had fallen behind by 16 points. The boys had 7 players score in this game. They were lead by Garrett Bell who made 5 three pointers and ended up with 21 points. J.T. Lynn had a double digit game also scoring 11 points and making one three pointer. Jackson Barnes made 2 three pointers and scored 8 points. Others scoring were Devin McClain scoring 6 points, Cody Jones added 4 points, Ryan Hardin and Josh Limpkin both had 2 points appiece.
In the girls game, the scoring and mometum changed each and every quarter. The first quarter scoring stayed pretty close until the final minuet when the Lady Cougars jumped out to a 7 point lead. But during the second quarter, the Lady Cougars could not get any of their shots to fall and only scored 3 points for that quarter. Greenbrier seemed like they could not miss anything and scored 18 points making the halftime score 39-21 in favor of the Lady Bobcats.
Boys Standings - Girls Standings
For the third quarter of the second half, both teams played great defense and both teams only scored 10 points a piece making the score at the end of the quarter 49-31.
Things would drastically change for the final quarter. Coach Spann would rally his players who outscored the Lady Bobcats 18-6 for an exciting comeback victory, who are now 3-3 in league play and 10-7 overall.
Courtney Wiseman lead the Lady Cougars in scoring with 14 points. Hayley Romine would have a fantastic game scoring 11 points. Paige Neely would make 3 three pointers and end up with 9 points. Others scoring would be point guard Teddi London scoring 9 points, Cariona Hassell scored 5 points and Olivia Tinnell scored 1 point.
Both boys and girls teams games got cancelled due to snow on Friday of last week vs. Westmoreland at home. Those games have been rescheduled for February 16th at home. Next game up for both teams will be at Lancaster Christian, Monday (February 1st). The boys will then play at Metro Christain Tuesday at 7:30 pm. Both boys and girls will finish up the week playing a district game vs. White House with the girls game starting at 6:00 pm and the boys game to follow.
