A Good Reason to Become a Miami Dolphin Fan

Patrick Turner - class of '05There is a good reason to become a Miami Dolphin fan especially if you are a Goodpasture student, a Goodpasture parent and a Goodpasture Alumni. We are proud to say that Goodpasture’s very own Patrick Turner was drafted as the 23rd player in the 3rd round and the 87th player overall to the Miami Dolphins.

Patrick is not the first Couguar to ever be drafted in the NFL or is he? If you said yes, technically you would be correct. Marcus Buggs, who also was a Goodpasture player, went to Vanderbilt in college. He did not get drafted but was added to the Bills team as a free agent last year and assigned to their practice squad. On October 22nd of last season he was activated off the practice squad and played in 3 games last season.

While attending Goodpasture, Patrick broke a number of records and 7 individual records that still hold-up today. You can see those records on the Goodpasture football History website called Cougar Chronicles. Patrick wore number 88 on his jersey while attending Goodpasture. He was 6'-5" and weighed 210 lbs. Patrick was able to catch just about every pass that was thrown to him. Most of the passes he caught were thrown by Brandon Janco, who was the QB during Patrick's career. They collectively hold 3 offensive team records (2002) that can also be found at Cougar Chronicles. Patrick also was on the 2001 State Championship team as a freshman. He really left an indelible mark on the Goodpasture Football Program.

After graduating from Goodpasture Christian High School in the summer of 2005, he committed to play for the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans. Patrick was ranked one of the top receivers in the nation and had his choice of suiters. Ultimately it came down to Tennessee and USC. A lot of pressure was on Patrick to go close by and commit to his home state but Patrick was ready to travel on his own road and commited to play for Pete Carrol who is the head coach of USC. Patrick really had to step up his game while attending USC because the PAC ten team was one of the top teams in the nation, year in and year out, in recruiting. The first couple of years were tough but his Junior and Senior year set him apart from the other receivers there and in turn had pro scouts loving what they were seeing in his play and his size and speed. Just as he did when he was coming out of Goodpasture, he had everyone wanting him but ultimately had one team that drafted him and that was the Miami Dolphins in the third round of this year's draft.

We all here at Goodpasture only wish Patrick the best of luck while in the NFL and who knows, we just might have to pull for the Dolphins and not the home team as Patrick did in his college choice. Good Luck Patrick!
