Classical Ballet/Lyrical: Focuses on beginner techniques and basic principals of traditional ballet. In addition to learning the art of ballet, students also learn skills, discipline and coordination. Posture, flexibility, musicality and integration of basic movements such as turnout, strength and lines are major tenants of the course. Many of these concepts may be applied to other dance styles, making them a foundation for dance.
Tap: Tap dancing is a fun and excellent way for children to get exercise and learn rhythm. Students learn the basic fundamentals of tap dance while improving their coordination and self confidence. Learning tap dance can be easy and enjoyable for children.
Jazz: Jazz in an introduction to this dance style that is a foundation for many dance movements. The class is highly recommended for students interested in joining a dance or cheerleading team and is sure to improve overall flexibility, coordination and athleticism. In addition to reinforcing what has already been learned, the class works on developing kicking, turning and leaping skills.
Hip Hop: This class focuses on learning the new dance moves from Disney movies such as “High School Musical 1 and 2” and “Cheetah Girls”. A GHSD dancer who was a featured dancer in both HSM 1 and 2 will assist by “guest-teaching” a class on dances from the movies. Hip Hop is an upbeat and energetic dance form which builds self confidence and adds the benefits of physical exercise. At GHSD, emphasis is placed on ensuring that all hip hop choreography is tasteful and appropriate for children.
