High School Library

Blended LibraryGoodpasture Christian High School Library provides resources and services for 484 students in grades 7-12. Our mission and our vision are to ensure that all students become effective users of ideas and information. In today's rapidly evolving technological world, we face a great challenge to provide not only the most current, comprehensive and diverse technological products and sources available, but also to adequately instruct our students so they will become competent in their use. This enables them to become informed and prudent users of these resources. The library currently has eleven stand alone computers for students' use, in addition to providing a wireless environment for students with personal laptop computers. The library provides access to several online databases, including "Tennessee Electronic Library", " Encyclopedia Britannica", and "Readers' Guide", in addition to our library's Card Catalog.

The traditional concept of the library as a "bookstore of knowledge" has been replaced by what some professionals term as a "hybrid library", which translates into a continuum between the conventional and the digital library. This concept relates the opinion that electronic and paper-based information sources should be used in conjunction with each other. The library media center must continually integrate technology with existing forms of information already at our disposal. SmartBoard technology in our library accentuates this objective.

Reading advocacy is an important and fundamental function of the school library. Literary is achieved and enhanced through a literature-enriched environment. The library features a strong reference and recreational collection consisting of approximately 7500 books. Our goal is to get students excited about reading for their recreational and personal needs. Books challenge students to think, to grapple with ideas, and to dream. Reading proficiency is widely recognized as the leading indicator of students' success. It is also the baseline skill required for success in all human endeavors. In addition, books designated as reference are essential and vital for developing students' skills in the area of research, to better prepare them for continuing their education at the college level.

Supplementary materials such as DVDs, Videos, and Recorded Books are also valuable components of a strong academic curriculum, which is our focus and challenge every day in a Christian school environment.
