The Tale of Two Teams

It was the best of times Friday for our Baseball and Softball teams; and the only down side had to be the poor Tennessean writers who had to write out "Goodpasture" so many times.

There were 59 listed mentions of Goodpasture's baseball & softball teams in one week alone. When all was said and done, the boys and girls on those teams won overwhelmingly. The boy's team outscored their opponents 35 - 6 through all four games of the tournament. The girls, winning their 6th straight State Championship, beat their opponents 18 - 2.

If there are any of those team members that deserve to mentioned for their outstanding defensive play, Please Let Us Know! Mr. Estep, Mr. Phillips & their coaching staff's deserve praise as well for keeping our students focused on the ball and for representing us so well in the media!

Spring Fling Shutouts

The Baseball and Softball teams have completed their opening round at the State tournament. Both held their opponents scoreless. Bennett Smith had the biggest hit of the day with an three-run homer in the 3rd inning to help the Cougars beat Marion County 10 - 0. Goodpasture (35-4) advances to the winners bracket and plays University School of Jackson today at 12:30 p.m. (see The Tennessean's article)

Kelsey Cartwright had the big stick in the Softball team's 8 - 0 win over Chester County with a triple, two doubles and four RBIs. Devon Schmidt picked up her 35th win of the season while striking out 10 and scattering 4 hits. The Lady Cougars now face Unicoi County, a 6-1 winner over Martin Westview, Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. (see The Tennessean's article)

Goodpasture Softball could Tie for Longest Championship Streak

This weeks State Tournement, while billed as one of the easier events of the year by The Tennessean, is still one of great importance to the players.  Sophmore Sephanie Nidiffer says, "The State Tournement is important because of the hard work we put in through the season, and how it showcases us as the best in state."
