Seventh Grade Introduction
Seventh grade is another big step up for Goodpasture students. They come to the high school building where they encounter a new building and classroom setting, new teachers, and new activities. They go from four class rotations to seven with more opportunity for class selection.
The opportunity to participate in sports also increases as seventh graders become eligible for 7th and 8th grade football, basketball, soccer, track & field, golf. Seventh graders also have the opportunity to participate in student council and club activities. Reward parties are held at the end of each nine week quarter for students who have shown excellent behavior throughout the quarter. Hosted by the teachers, these may consist of games, food, movies, or picnics. They also attend the middle school banquet which provides students the opportunity to socialize in a formal setting. Field trips are also scheduled throughout the year. Seventh graders join high school devotionals which meets in the auditorium each week as well a middle school devotional.
Seventh graders focus on core courses of study including math, science, social studies, English, Bible or Bible Chorus, P.E., athletics, or band. There is also a rotation consisting of a series of mini courses which include study skills, writing, music appreciation, and computer.
