Softball
The 2008 Goodpasture Lady Cougar softball team capped off their season with their sixth consecutive State Championship. The team captured Class A state titles in 2003, 2004, and 2005 and proceeded to move to Class AA with titles in 2006, 2007, and now 2008.
The Lady Cougars finished this season with a 43-6 record. The Lady Cougars 10-game run through the playoffs included 9 shutouts and were capped off with 4 straight wins in the State Tournament in Murfreesboro.
The championship is the
eighth overall for the program as they captured the Class A State Championship in 1996 and the Division II State Championship in 1999. Since 1994, the Lady Cougars remarkable sting of success has found them playing in the State Champion game twelve times in the fifteen year period resulting in four runner-up finishes along with the eight State Titles.
The 2008 campaign marked the thirtieth season for the program that was begun by Marquita Thomas in 1979. Over those thirty years the team has recorded 746 wins, 19 district championships, and 12 Region championships to go along with the 8 State Championships.
