Testing Services

Goodpasture is a state approved school which follows all guidelines established by the State of Tennessee. All private schools are not state approved but Goodpasture has chosen to follow the same testing procedures as the state.

Tests which the school administers includes the following:

  • Grades 3 though 8 take achievement tests in the spring. These are the Terra Nova tests produced by McGraw-Hill. These consist of a battery of tests, each lasting 40 to 70 minutes in length.

  • Grades 5, 8, and 11 must complete a writing test. Students are assigned a topic and must prepare a written paper during the allotted time.

  • Grade 8 takes The Explorer Test. This is a test similar to the ACT only it is designed specifically for eighth graders. It contains testing on math, English, reading, science and introduces the students to the ACT format and design.

  • Grades 9 and 10 take the PLAN test This is a sophomore version of the ACT. It helps students become comfortable with the testing format and types of questions likely to be asked on the ACT. Students are allowed to retain the testing booklets for study and practice.

  • Grades 10 and 11 take the PSATNMSQT. The PSAT is a preliminary SAT test. The NMSQT is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

  • Goodpasture also offers Dual Credit English and Math courses, as well as several Advanced Placement courses. At the conclusion of the AP courses, a test is administered and if a specified scoring level is reached, many students receive college credit for these courses.

  • The actual ACT and SAT can be taken during the student’s junior and senior year. All test scores are recorded on the student’s transcript. Some colleges prefer the ACT scores while others emphasize the SAT. This is a consideration to be addressed during the collegiate search process.

Goodpasture serves as an ACT testing site. Students benefit from a familiar testing environment and some Goodpasture faculty members serve as test proctors.

Goodpasture students have access to excellent ACT preparatory teachers and courses which are offered here on-site. Also, a number of CD-ROM programs are available and can be utilized during the preparation process.
