Goodpasture has a long history of success in the area of fine arts. From award-winning marching band shows to elementary Christmas plays to full musical productions performed to packed houses, the Goodpasture student experiences the visual and performing arts in a number of ways throughout his or her school years.
The Department of Fine Arts strives to engage the student in active learning and critical thinking skills in order for students to develop and enhance creativity and aesthetic awareness in all areas of life. Goodpasture faculty believes the fine arts provide many benefits including promoting self-esteem, providing cultural exposure, and fostering an appreciation for diversity.
Goodpasture’s campus contains a beautiful fine arts center with an auditorium which seats 1200 people. This facility is acoustically advanced and is the location of multiple plays and performances each year.

After school classes are offered on campus in the Studio 2:55 Program. Classes are offered for a variety of ages from elementary school to high school in the following areas:
Visual Arts and Theater classes travel to New York City to tour the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Empire State Building, the 911 Memorial Museum and two Broadway plays among other stops. This trip is always a highlight for the students who attend.
Additional summer trips to various locations in Europe are available for high school students.
When do art and music programs begin for students?
Students as early as 12 months of age receive music instruction. Formal art classes taught by an art teacher begin in kindergarten.
At what age can students begin taking band classes?
Students in the 6th grade are given the option of band as an elective.
How many fine arts classes can students take advantage of in high school?
High school students must receive 31 credits in order to graduate. 8.5 hours may be electives. Therefore, high school students may take 8 classes within the fine arts department prior to graduation.
Are there many plays, productions, and concerts each year in which students can perform?
Yes! Goodpasture’s 1200 seat auditorium is often packed for performances such as the annual elementary Christmas play and the spring musical. In addition, almost every grade level in elementary and lower middle school has the opportunity to perform a special program each year. Multiple concerts are also held in the fine arts building each year.
