The theater program at Goodpasture allows students to learn about and be a part of everything that goes into stage productions through Theater 1, Theater 2, Theater 3, and Technical Theater. Theater 1 is an introductory theater class that covers the history of theater, improvisation, the GOTE acting method as well as monologue and duet performances. Theater 2 introduces students to many different acting techniques and offers opportunities to compete in forensics fompetitions with the Tennessee High School Speech and Drama League. Technical Theater is an active, hands-on class that is only open to juniors and seniors. The students in the Technical Theater course gain an understanding of the elements of design and how they are used in sets, lights, costume, and makeup. In addition to in-class design projects, these spend much of their class time in the auditorium designing, building, and painting sets for our school productions.
The various theater courses available ensure the high school students have a variety of options available to fulfill the necessary fine arts credit. Hopefully, many of them will also discover talents and abilities to showcase through the productions and classes at Goodpasture. Our annual theater productions include a fall play with auditions open for high school students and a spring musical with auditions open to all ages.
